Zhenyu Wu, blog 11a, section A2

One sentence attracted me is “The rise of mass culture is usually characterized much like modernity.” That was totally different from what happened in China. China’s groundwork is base on the countryside; nevertheless, the U.S.’s were base on the urban. That’s why during that period the western countries can grow so fast. And this also made the U.S. technologies were a way ahead of China’s, also including the technologies of spreading information. Televisions, radios, etc. got into people’s lives. And bit by bit people cannot live without media.

Media became necessary, but what if media spread rumors or some information that bring out panic? We got to control people’s thought, especially a big country like China, it got to send out the information that benefit people and make them act in unison with the government. During that period, the U.S. just recovered from WW2. Also need to do the same way as China’s. In that case, the mass media of both countries were acting the same.

Q1: what change in the media now if you compare these two counties?

Q2: Can media be more reliable than today’s? When can it break away from the political power?
